Hello Everyone,
Here is a link to the October Newsletter.
Twenty-two out of the thirty-four sectors that we monitor went up in September, including two that went up by less than 0.025%. Overall that’s slightly down from the twenty-four that went up in August and the twenty-six that went up in July.
Only fourteen sectors have now made gains for three months in a row.
In some months, there is not much difference in performance between the leading sectors, while in others there is a clear winner.
Last month, the China/Greater China sector was in a league of its own. It posted a one-month gain of 20.0%. The next best performing sector was Asia Pacific Excluding Japan, up 5.3%, and then the Global Emerging Markets sector, which had risen by 4.1%.
‘Full Steam Ahead Emerging’ was the best performing Group, followed by ‘Slow Ahead’, where all of the sectors had gone up over the month. The performance of the sectors in the ‘Steady as She Goes’ and ‘Full Steam Ahead Developed’ Groups was more mixed.
The worst performing sector was Healthcare, which ended the month down 4.4%.
Stock markets around the world fell sharply at the beginning of August, but then rallied. By the end of the month most were either showing gains or had significantly reduced their losses. It was a similar story last month.
The Chinese stock markets saw a remarkable rally at the end of the month, ending with a one-day rise of over 8%.
As always, I hope that you enjoy this month’s newsletter and I look forward to hearing any feedback.
