After a disappointing November, when only four of the twelve major stock market indices that we monitor made gains, eight went up in December. That momentum continued into January, with ten making positive progress.
The strengthening in market conditions has been reflected in our analysis. Over the last three months, overall sector performance has steadily improved.
In November, only 14 of the 32 sectors that we report on each week were showing gains. December was better, with 20 sectors posting positive returns, and last month was better again, with 28 making headway.
Since the last newsletter, both portfolios have also performed well. Over the last four weeks, the Tugboat has risen by 2.1%, while the Ocean Liner has gained 2.7%. Over the last six months, they are up 9.6% and 14.1% respectively.
