The Fund Graphs show sector performance over the last 8, 26 or 52 weeks, based on that funds performance, on a week-by-week basis.
The Fund Table data shows the top 6 funds within the sectors. On the default sort option, we measure fund performance by the fund's Decile Ranking in its Group. You can switch this to ordering by return in which case it's the fund performance by the fund's 4 week return in this group.
When on the Decile ranking option, for each time period (1 week, 4 weeks, 12 weeks, or 26 weeks), we first rank all the funds in the Group by their % return. The top 10% of that ranking list go into Decile 1, the next 10% go into Decile 2, and so on until the bottom 10% go into Decile 10. The use of Deciles gives a much more accurate performance measure than the 'Quartile' system commonly used.
To select the leading funds in each Sector, we sort first by the Decile Ranking for the last 4 week period, and then we sort by the Decile Rankings for the most recent individual weeks.
When on the Return ranking option, for each time period (4 weeks, 12 weeks, or 26 weeks), we rank the funds by the selected weeks return %, then by the recently weekly decile ranks.
An important feature of these tables is the shading function. Each return and decile figure is shaded to highlight higher figures in each column. This allows you at a glance to spot trends appearing in the data.
Tables also show the last weeks returns in basic mode, or an extended week by week view in the advanced mode. You can switch between these modes by the button on the top right of all screens.
You can switch between different lengths of time (4, 12 or 26 weeks) depending on how far you want to see performance stretched out. We use 4 weeks as a rule to spot trends, but utilise the extended time to confirm if this trend is longer term. This all depends on your attitude to risk and how long you wish to confirm the trend.
